• What is your Montessori homeschool program?

  In a single shipment, our Montessori 3–6 homeschool program provides you with the curriculum, materials, preparation instructions, and support you will need to build a solid homeschool foundation for your child throughout the preschool years. The program is rooted in Montessori philosophy and methodology and is designed to meet the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development needs of your child.

    Montessori philosophy and methodology — We developed our Guide to Theory and Practice to offer important information about the Montessori method and the Montessori technique. This book is divided into three main sections: (i) the Montessori approach as it developed through the fascinating life of Maria Montessori; (ii) the key components of the philosophy and methodology; and (iii) putting the Montessori method into practice in your home.
    
    How to set up the Montessori home environment — We devote an entire section of the Guide to setting up the prepared environment in your home and include detailed information on room set-up, accessory spaces, materials, and the outdoor area — preparing you fully to teach Montessori at home.
    
    How to implement the step-by-step Montessori lesson plans — We include close to 400 learning activities in our Curriculum I and Curriculum II manuals, each one methodically detailed with step-by-step lesson plans and color photographs. Each activity outlines the purpose, suggested age range to introduce the activity, relevant background information and notes, the materials you will need, preparation instructions for hand-made materials, presentation (step-by-step Montessori lesson), variations (additional related activities), and vocabulary. We designed our Montessori homeschool program so that you will be well prepared and successful when you teach Montessori at home.

• How many years will I be able to use the Montessori 3–6 homeschool program’s curriculum and resources?

  You will be able to use the homeschooling curriculum and resources for the entire three years of your child’s Montessori 3–6 homeschool program. And if you are homeschooling more than one child, you can use the same curriculum and resources for that child’s full program, too!

• Who developed it, and why?

  Since its inception in 1996, the North American Montessori Center (NAMC) has concentrated its efforts to deliver high quality Montessori teacher training programs via distance learning and to research and develop professional Montessori curriculum manuals. Drawing on this multi-faceted experience, we embarked on our Montessori homeschool program project to fill a growing interest in applying proven Montessori methods and materials in a home-based environment. We recognize that the same learning outcomes and character benefits that are derived in a Montessori classroom setting can be applied when teaching Montessori at home.

• How much does it cost?

• Do I need to purchase additional items?

  Your program includes the key curriculum and the corresponding material that you will need for the foundation of your Montessori homeschool program.

  For a few of the activities, we have suggested that you make or source some of the required material to teach Montessori at home, but many of these items are readily available in your home or local craft store. Other than that, you may choose to purchase items to prepare your Montessori homeschool environment, such as storage containers, trays, mats, accessible shelving, books for your library, and child-size furniture.

• What makes this program unique from everything else that is available out there?

• With so many free resources and templates online, why should I pay for this program?

  It is true that there are a multitude of excellent online resources for Montessori and homeschooling, some of which are free. However, our program provides you with everything you need to teach Montessori at home in a single shipment. We have done the work for you, so you don’t have to spend your time looking for resources and then trying to make them fit together in a cohesive program. We offer you a fully comprehensive program of theory, step-by-step homeschooling curriculum, and key Montessori material. As well, we provide you with support when you need it. • Is this program easy to implement?

  Yes, we developed a Montessori home-based program with great attention and care to equipping the homeschooler with the knowledge, resources, and support to provide the best Montessori education for your child. We drew upon our extensive experience in developing Montessori curriculum combined with a considerable breadth of knowledge in educating Montessori teachers via distance learning all around the world to create a program that can be implemented by any homeschooler who has a passion to teach Montessori at home using Montessori methods and materials.

• Can a homeschool parent with little training and experience learn and implement the Montessori method in a reasonable amount of time?

  This program was created for people just like you: parents who wish to teach Montessori at home, but who have little or no previous training. We have included a comprehensive Guide to Theory and Practice that provides you with the background information you will need to present the Montessori homeschool program. In addition, we have included a number of resources that will guide you on how and when to present activities, setting up your Montessori homeschool environment, and assessing your child’s development during the program. By dedicating time to reading the Guide and setting up your program beforehand, you could be prepared to begin homeschooling your child using the Montessori method in about a week’s time.

• What can I expect my child to learn?

  During the three years of this program, you can expect your child will learn how to:

  • write and read
  • identify parts of speech in a sentence
  • develop an extensive vocabulary including the names of countries, the parts of plants, trees, animals, land forms, and much more
  • understand the decimal system
  • count to 1,000
  • perform all four mathematical operations
  • memorize basic arithmetic facts
  • develop coordination, concentration, sense of order, and the ability to be independent
  • refine her senses through observation and classification — which leads to abstract thinking
  • explore and discover history, geography, botany, zoology, and chemistry

  While being actively engaged in all of this hands-on learning, your child has the opportunity to discover herself and develop a passion for learning more about the world. Your child will enjoy seeking new knowledge and applying previously gained knowledge in new situations. The use of Montessori materials provides your child with a concrete example of the most abstract concepts, helping her internalize and own her knowledge, and building a foundation for lifetime learning.

• How will I start this program with my child?

  Because our Montessori homeschool program is comprehensive and inclusive, we have included detailed instructions, including user-friendly documentation on how to get started and curriculum maps of concepts covered in each year.  The maps outline the step-by-step process you will follow while you teach Montessori at home, including how to:

  • start the program
  • prepare yourself and the learning environment
  • plan your year, month, week, and day
  • implement the homeschooling curriculum
  • observe and document your child’s progress

• Is this a training program with a certificate or diploma upon successful completion?

  No, this is not a training or certification program. This is homeschooling program that provides parents and caregivers with the tools they need to educate their children in the Montessori method during the preschool years. NAMC does offer a separate program for people interested in acquiring their Montessori teaching training for preschool (ages 3–6), as well as for infant/toddler, lower elementary, and upper elementary. • Can I start this program if my child is already four or five years old?

  Yes, you can successfully begin the 3–6 homeschool program even if your child is already four or five years old. It will, of course, require some consideration to decide where your child should begin. However, you will be able to gauge where your child should start in each of the homeschooling curriculums by reviewing the manuals, consulting the curriculum maps, and, most importantly, assessing your child’s individual needs and development.

• My child is under 3 years. Can I get started now with the 3-6 program?

  If your child is over 2-1/2 years old, you may want to get started setting up and implementing your 3-6 homeschool environment.  We recommend starting the 3-6 program with your child any time after age 2 years, 8 months.

  If your child is younger than 2-1/2 years, we offer Montessori teaching curriculum – Infant/Toddler 0-3, on our North American Montessori Center (NAMC) website: www.montessoritraining.net .  Parents and daycares have been successfully using our Montessori infant and toddler teaching curriculum for many years:  Infant/Toddler curriculum .

• Do you have a program for after age 6?

  Although we do not have a homeschool package available for elementary, we offer Montessori teaching curriculum – Lower Elementary 6-9 and Upper Elementary 9-12, on our North American Montessori Center (NAMC) website: www.montessoritraining.net .  Homeschoolers have been successfully using our Montessori elementary teaching curriculum for many years:  Lower Elementary curriculum and Upper Elementary curriculum .
